The Dead Dane

by Steven Duggan

For lovers and students of 'Hamlet' everywhere.Having spent 30 years studying and teaching Shakespeare's great play, Steven Duggan has written a bawdy, irreverent reimagining of the play as a murder mystery, asking the question - what would have happened if Horatio had been killed before he could recount his story of events? In this retelling, two out of work actors, Will Shakespeare and Kit Marlowe, are asked to investigate the circumstances behind a Norwegian Prince's inheritance of a castle and lands near Helsinore in Denmark. Will they discover the circumstances behind the deaths of five members of a noble household? And who are the dark forces conspiring to keep them from the truth?...

The Sonnets of William Shakespeare (Wisehouse Classics Edition)

by William Shakespeare

SHAKESPEARE'S SONNETS is the title of a collection of 154 sonnets by William Shakespeare, which covers themes such as the passage of time, love, beauty and mortality. The first 126 sonnets are addressed to a young man; the last 28 to a woman. The sonnets were first published in a 1609 quarto with the full stylized title: “SHAKE-SPEARES SONNETS. Never before Imprinted.” (although sonnets 138 and 144 had previously been published in the 1599 miscellany The Passionate Pilgrim). The quarto ends with “A Lover's Complaint”, a narrative poem of 47 seven-line stanzas written in rhyme royal—though some scholars have argued convincingly against Shakespeare’s authorship of the poem. The sonnets to the young man express overwhelming, obsessional love. The main issue of debate has always be...

Beyond Good and Evil (Golden Deer Classics) [The Classics Collection #04]

by Friedrich Nietzsche

Downloadin EPUB format, also available for Kindle or in PDFBeyond Good and Evil (German: Jenseits von Gut und Böse), subtitled "Prelude to a Philosophy of the Future" (Vorspiel einer Philosophie der Zukunft), is a book by the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, first published in 1886.It takes up and expands on the ideas of his previous work, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, but approached from a more critical, polemical direction. In Beyond Good and Evil, Nietzsche attacks past philosophers for their alleged lack of critical sense and their blind acceptance of Christian premises in their consideration of morality. The work moves into the realm "beyond good and evil" in the sense of leaving behind the traditional morality which Nietzsche subjects to a destructive critique in favour of what he r...

She and her father had delighted in spending long, cozy, afternoons cuddled in the library studying ancient family history. David Abramovitz began recounting tales of great-grandparents tr...

The young filmmaker found an old German living in the South with his great niece. He offered to watch the old man during the day if he could interview him.

The Saga of Hrolf Kraki and his Champions (Viking Legendary Sagas Book 6)

by Anonymous

The Saga of Hrolf Kraki and his Champions is notable particularly for its links with the Old English poem Beowulf, and it shows the close links between Anglo Saxon mythology and legend and those of the Vikings. Characters and locations are common to both the saga, a late work of the fourteenth century Icelandic literary tradition, and the poem, whose manuscript dates from the eleventh century (although it is said to have been composed in the seventh century). Both are set in Denmark and Sweden, c. 500 AD. The Hrolf of the saga is identical to the Hrothulf of the poem; the saga’s Hroar is the poem’s Hrothgar. Although there is no Beowulf in the saga, he has a counterpart in Bodvar Bjarki, a bear-like warrior who rescues the Danish king’s hall from a monster.

However, it i...

Coronach *** Number 1 Poetry Book ***

by Craig Stobo

In late August 2012, in the space of sixty-two hours, Craig Stobo lost half his family to sepsis and almost lost his own life, too. Whilst recovering in hospital and in the midst of profound shock and grief, he began writing poems to his late wife, Fiona, and their stillborn daughter, Isla. These poems became Coronach, a cycle of poems about love, loss and learning to live again in a very different world. A meditation on grief and mourning, Coronach is a tribute to Fiona and Isla, about finding a way forward in the life – part two - that continues after their sudden and untimely loss and about the hope and renewal his young son brought the author in the bleakest of times.* Number 1 Poetry Book, Amazon/Kindle/British & Irish Poetry, December 2018...

Forty-One and One Half

by Edward Drobinski

Irreligious and middle-aged Isaac Leibowitz leaves his comfortable home and family in Gig Harbor, Washington in pursuit of career enhancement in NYC. His wife wants no part of the big city, and they work out a tacit agreement that he will return after establishing top notch credentials. To fill the free time now afforded, Isaac once again, picks up on a “conspiracy theory,” which he had abandoned five years prior. His revived interest is partially due to his “conspiratorial” zoftig neighbor in Brooklyn Heights. The past, researched as well as may be determined under the constricting circumstances, though not capable of passing the bar of “beyond all reasonable doubt,” seems to strongly suggest a mankind-tricked-thereby-turbulent view of history. With potentially more relevance,...
