His father sets him twelve tasks to complete in a year, and to ensure these tasks are completed, a monk is assigned to join Aidan and so provide a journal of the lad's efforts. Along the way these two will become close, as Aidan seeks to 'obtain his armor and weapon by means gallant' and 'rescue an innocent held against his or her will' and 'obtain a horse.' These are the first three tasks set to Aidan on his journey. But he will prove to have more depth than just the pursuit of these tasks, as he proves heroic in the face of dangers not imagined at the outset of his quest. His morality will be tested...
