The Design and Simulated Performance of the Attitude Determination and Control System of a Gravity Gradient Stabilized Cube Satellite

by Windell Jones

This is a master’s project report submitted to the mechanical engineering department of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. It discusses the design and simulated performance of the Attitude Determination and Control Subsystem of a 3U cube satellite named Hoʻoponopono (H2). H2 was developed at the UH Mānoa College of Engineering’s Small-Satellite Laboratory. Its mission was to aid in the radar calibration process of U.S. Air Force radar stations by providing a calibration source in orbit. Its gravity-gradient ADCS was designed to point H2 in the nadir direction for the entirety of its mission lifetime. The unique issues associated with achieving gravity-gradient stabilization is discussed. To ensure that the functionality and performance requirements were satisfied, the Nanosatellit...

Artificial Intelligence business applications: Machine learning within the business. The matter of the interpreted and high-level programming language called Python

by Chris Baker

Buy the paperback version for this book and get the kindle book version for freeTransistors can switch the flow of electricity, amplify it and that’s pretty much it. Logic gates form the basis for computer programs, which are just a series of ones and zeros. How then can these simple switches of electricity create intelligent behavior?Read on your PC, Mac, smart phone, tablet or Kindle deviceArtificial intelligence is very different from human intelligence. The primary unit of thinking in the human brain is thought to be a neuron, while in the computer, you have a central processing unit (CPU) that performs calculations. The smallest unit of a CPU is a transistor, an electronic component that makes up logic gates. These are the equivalent of neurons for computers, but they don’t do ver...

A History of Radionuclide Studies in the UK: 50th Anniversary of the British Nuclear Medicine Society

by Ralph McCready

The British Nuclear Medicine Society celebrates its 50th Anniversary with this booklet, which reflects the research of many of the pioneers in the use of radionuclides for the diagnosis and therapy of human disease. Since 1949 there have been remarkable advances in radionuclide techniques and imaging equipment: from the first devices “home-made” in the many physics departments throughout the UK, to the sophisticated multimodality imagers now in everyday use in Nuclear Medicine. The BNMS has been instrumental in promoting the use of radionuclide techniques in the investigation of pathology by supporting and providing education, research and guidelines on the optimum use of radiation to help patients. The future of Nuclear Medicine is bright, thanks to improved imaging resolution, new ra...

Rewilding European Landscapes

by Henrique M. Pereira

Some European lands have been progressively alleviated of human pressures, particularly traditional agriculture in remote areas. This book proposes that this land abandonment can be seen as an opportunity to restore natural ecosystems via rewilding. We define rewilding as the passive management of ecological successions having in mind the long-term goal of restoring natural ecosystem processes. The book aims at introducing the concept of rewilding to scientists, students and practitioners. The first part presents the theory of rewilding in the European context. The second part of the book directly addresses the link between rewilding, biodiversity, and habitats. The third and last part is dedicated to practical aspects of the implementation of rewilding as a land management option. We beli...

Finite Difference Computing with Exponential Decay Models (Lecture Notes in Computational Science and Engineering Book 110)

by Hans Petter Langtangen

This text provides a very simple, initial introduction to the complete scientific computing pipeline: models, discretization, algorithms, programming, verification, and visualization. The pedagogical strategy is to use one case study – an ordinary differential equation describing exponential decay processes – to illustrate fundamental concepts in mathematics and computer science. The book is easy to read and only requires a command of one-variable calculus and some very basic knowledge about computer programming. Contrary to similar texts on numerical methods and programming, this text has a much stronger focus on implementation and teaches testing and software engineering in particular....
