A Voice from the Main Deck: Being a Record of the Thirty Years' Adventures of Samuel Leech

by Samuel Leech

Samuel Leech (1798–1848) was a young sailor in the Royal Navy and the United States Navy during the War of 1812. He became notable as one of very few who wrote an account of his experiences, titled, in the manner of the time, "A Voice from the Main Deck".Leech's nautical career began in 1810, at the age of thirteen, when Lord William FitzRoy agreed to take Samuel into his frigate HMS Macedonian. He was a powder monkey during Macedonian's duel with the United States in 1812, and would later vividly describe the carnage on board the British ship before she struck her colors.  He was a prisoner of war but his imprisonment seems not to have been too uncomfortable, and did not last long in any case, since the war ended the following year. Many years later he revisited Macedonian, now a US ship...

Ryker (Kings of Korruption MC Book 1)

by Geri Glenn

When her poor choices make us targets of the Devil’s Rejects Motorcycle Club, I grab her and we run like hell. A new city, a new job, a new life. It’s almost perfect – and then I meet Ryker.

He’s gorgeous, rugged and too cocky for his own damned good. But he’s a biker – exactly the type of man I’ve been running from. I have no business getting involved with a man like him. Too bad I can’t get him out of my head.

Ryker

As V.P. of the Kings of Korruption MC, I know all about violence and loss. In my world, getting involved with a woman never turns out well. Avoiding commitment isn’t something I ...

Brief Histories of U.S. Government Agencies

by Michael Erbschloe

This book provides a brief history of over 100 U.S. Government departments and agencies. Concern for the preservation of the records of the nation was expressed early. "Time and accident," Thomas Jefferson warned in 1791, "are committing daily havoc on the originals deposited in our public offices." But it was not until the early 1930s that historians and others concerned with the preservation of the nation’s records saw their hopes realized. The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is the nation's record keeper. Of all documents and materials created in the course of business conducted by the United States Federal government, only 1%-3% are so important for legal or historical reasons that they are kept by NARA forever. These brief histories will hopefully help to preserve...

The Salem Witch Hunt: A Captivating Guide to the Hunt and Trials of People Accused of Witchcraft in Colonial Massachusetts

by Captivating History

If you want to discover the captivating history of the Salem Witch Hunt, then keep reading...Free History BONUS Inside!Decades after witch-hunting had begun to die down in Europe, North America was about to witness its bloodiest witch hunt in history. The Massachusetts of 1692 was a very different one to the state we know today. Populated by colonists, many of them a generation or less from life in an England bathed in religious turmoil, Massachusetts was not the safe haven that the fleeing Puritans had hoped it would be. Persecuted for their faith in Europe, the Puritans had pictured a kind of utopia founded on biblical principles. They saw the New World as a new beginning, a kind of second chance for humanity. It would be only 72 years after the arrival of the Mayflower that the events i...

Shadow Soldier: A Western Adventure (The J.D. Wilkes Western Series Book 1)

by T.L. Davis

The story of J.D. Wilkes is the story of people's lives, of hard times, of redemption, real life choices and real life consequences. One should put away preconceived notions of what defines a "Western" when considering Shadow Soldier. J.D. Wilkes is three dimensional, not always right and not always moral.Shadow Soldier is literature, with deep emotional and even Christian themes running through the book as these things run through all of our lives. The choices he has to make are not easy and he struggles with doing the right thing. He is alienated and despised, feared and respected, ridiculed and honored as his actions are perceived by those around him as heroic or cowardly. On top of that, Shadow Soldier is historically correct and scrupulously researched. Times, places, people and event...

"Q" ANON: The Reluctant Warrior

by White (Vrajavala), Dr. Bobbi Anne

"Q" appeared in the Fall 2017 as Socratic dialogue, intended to raise the consciousness of not only America, but also the World. Donald J. Trump campaigned, and won the US Presidency on a promise "to drain the Swamp." Less than a year into his Presidency, very much opposed by the "Deep State", "Q" postings, resembling military code appeared on 4chan, then 8chan,then on qanonpost. These "crumbs" started to attract the attention of the Public, and they ascertained that "Q" was a part of Trump's entourage. In retrospect, many of the posts were predictive, and "Q" said "future proves past." Some of the posts correlated with the President's Tweets. It was said that "Q ANON" resembled the Common Sense pamphlets of Thomas Paine in the First American Revolution. Many Patriots participated and, as a...

The Presidents: and their motivations for seeking the office

by Charles Henry Vessey

THE PRESIDENTS and Their Motivations for Seeking the Office is a microcosm of American political life viewed through the prism of the American Presidency. Why would anyone solicit an office where upon election, approximately 50% of your constituents oppose or dislike your agenda? Does the allure of power draw the largest egos to the most demanding job in the world? Is it the opportunity to impose their political will on the American people? Does the job represent the possibility to create a more just society or perhaps a utopia on earth? The founders were determined to create a meritocracy rather than the aristocracy that prevailed in Europe. They succeeded in spite of attempts by the temporary occupants of the Presidency to alter the American experience with transitory political theories....

Archaeological Perspectives on Warfare on the Great Plains

by Andrew Clark

The Great Plains has been central to academic and popular visions of Native American warfare, largely because the region’s well-documented violence was so central to the expansion of Euroamerican settlement. However, social violence has deep roots on the Plains beyond this post-Contact perception, and these roots have not been systematically examined through archaeology before. War was part, and perhaps an important part, of the process of ethnogenesis that helped to define tribal societies in the region, and it affected many other aspects of human lives there. In Archaeological Perspectives on Warfare on the Great Plains, anthropologists who study sites across the Plains critically examine regional themes of warfare from pre-Contact and post-Contact periods and assess how war shape...
