The Traitor in the Trees: The Magical Adventures of a Thief

by Michael Dane

Ricci is used to being accused of thievery—in fact, he prides himself in it. But the novelty of being the number one suspect in the crime of the century quickly evaporates when he discovers the future of all he loves is held in the ruthless claws of a true, master thief. When Ricci, an eleven-year-old orphan from Earth, is invited to the elf city of Trinnifain, his sticky fingers twitch with excitement. Eager to perfect his craft on the friendly—if naive—elves, he patrols the city’s winding lanes in pursuit of loose purses and easy trinkets to liberate from their owners. His gold-snatching days take a turn for the worse when two Protection Seeds are stolen from their bloody graves in the city’s most sacred trees. If the remaining Seeds disappear, it will result in the complete annihilation of elf-kind. Ricci has grown fond of the peaceful species—and their gold—so sets aside his pick-pocketing ways to focus his attention on saving the remaining Seeds from ambitious hands. Ricci’s quest for saving the Seeds inadvertently lands him as a key suspect in the theft. Following a stint in the cells, he becomes an object for the king’s wrath, and worse—ostracized at school. If Ricci’s resolve waivers even a little, the elves may become nothing more than a memory, a shadow in a past long forgotten.

Skye City: The Trials of Arturo

by R. D. Hale

This collection of four episodes represents the first complete book in the Skye City series. Please note: The Rise of an Orphan, The Migdols of Samaris, The Biopunk Revolution, and The San Terian Genocide are all available separately for purchase. If you already own these episodes, you do not need to purchase this collection.**Winner of Wattpad's: Watty 2014: People's Choice Award for Science-Fiction** 'My name is Arturo Basilides. I am an orphan living in the slums of Medio City – the capital of a nation ravaged by a war which was won by extremists. Offered a choice between slavery and disenfranchisement, we exist in an underclass so disconnected we effectively inhabit a different era. Daily life involves scavenging, theft and substance abuse with a bunch of misfits who are somehow still in one piece after years of abandonment. I am a natural born fighter and although I despise warfare, I must witness the downfall of those bastard elites while fulfilling my romantic intentions with the forever unattainable girl of my dreams.' Skye City is a biopunk adventure set in a world where science is indistinguishable from magic and oppression is near-inescapable. Technology has created a newer, 'superior' form of human and genetically engineered monstrosities are as terrifying as anything encountered in your nightmares. The underclass have been underestimated and as they fight back the boundary between freedom fighter and terrorist becomes increasingly blurred. Meanwhile, the drug-induced haze of a traumatised mind places a question mark over the meaning of reality. 'Skye City: The Rise of an Orphan interweaves heavy social issues and philosophy, milking the sci-fi genre for all its worth. The slum dog's efforts to maintain their humanity in such a heartless age, when everything is going against them is palpable. The 99% versus 1% theme focuses our minds on where society might be heading and forces us to look at things how they are, if we wish them to be truly different.' Dean C. The Rise of Ronald Drumpf: Excerpts(the teaser)

by Ross Kramer

Dear Reader! These are the excerpts from my satirical play, which I intend to publish in the coming weeks. I want to emphasize that I am not interested in politics and I am not attacking any particular public figures currently on the political scene. I have never been drawn to any particular rulers or politicians as such. What intrigues this writer is the role of psychological portraits of individuals that are found among the dramatic paintings of human history. The frequency with which the biographies of outrageous psychopaths are entwined with wars, genocide, and destruction in various regions of our long-suffering planet is truly remarkable. And then the question arises, almost involuntarily: Why is it that people allow dictators to control their destinies? What is it that leads entire countries and nations toward devastation?I want to convey to people a simple truth, namely history often repeats itself in unexpected moments when we the people least expect it.It is my hope that my satirical play will inspire people to think about the issue of dictatorship itself, as well as how it is that dictators come to power in eras of instability and crisis among nations. In my play, I rely on imagination and art to hypothetically consider the ascendancy to power of a person with dictatorial inclinations in a single democratic country –– the United States. Once again, I ask you to look upon my work as the product of the author's imagination, with no connection to contemporary politics or current events. If you, the reader, appreciate my excerpt, then in a very short time you can read the continuation on Amazon.com. The publication of the first edition of the play is slated for November of this year.
