Twisting in Headstands and Heavy Drinking

by Justin Zyla

“A strange exploration of the college party scene.”“Captivating and painfully honest.”“A new, unique voice in American literature.”In an unruly Midwest town, Tristan – a college fraternity president – pinballs between failed relationships in an unholy battle with depression. Locked in savage self-abuse at the hands of booze and cigarettes – and surrounded by a collection of part-time degenerates he calls, “Brothers” – Tristan must confront his own inner turmoil, as he searches desperately for some main vein of American life in the swirling backdrop of mental illness.Debut author Justin Zyla brings a unique voice to contemporary literature, carving out a place in New Adult fiction. He comes from a lineage of beat era writers like William S. Burroughs and Hunter S. Thompson. With Twisting in Headstands and Heavy Drinking a mixture between Jack Kerouac's On the Road, Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar, S. E. Hinton’s The Outsiders, and J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye.* With all the keg stands and indoor bottle rocket fights necessary to make a half-way interesting novel. You can contact the author directly at justin.zyla@gmail.com or @justin_zyla on Instagram. He’d love to connect with book clubs / reading groups, high school or college classes, and just anyone wanting to share their thoughts about the novel.*Disclaimer: Justin doesn’t think he’s actually as talented as any of the above-listed authors. But including them in this description helps connect the book with all the tech-type algorithm search and indexing stuff, so it’s all a ruse to sell copies. Another example of this type-of-marketing is when a description says a book’s a #1 New York Times Bestseller, which this book definitely isn’t. Basically, he just wanted to write something that is, “Half-way decent. That I hope people enjoy or find meaningful or whatever.” He apologizes for the subterfuge.

The Veil Between: The Dreamwalker Book 1

by Jennifer Luque

For the past five years, Eve has been having vivid, realistic dreams that she shares with her mysterious dreamwalker. Most young women fresh out of high school might envy 18-year-old Eve Delaine. After all, she has already found the man of her dreams. The only trouble is that dark-haired, enigmatic Ian is precisely that: a man who exists only in her dreams.
After the untimely passing of her grandmother, Eve is bequeathed her ancestral home and inherits a small fortune. There is only one catch: Eve will need to move to the southern coast of Mississippi, leaving everything and everyone she loves behind.
Between the housekeeper’s cool attitude and odd behavior, late night whispering and objects that seemingly move on their own accord, Eve begins to wonder what secrets are buried deep within the old house. Destiny Scrolls: Path of the Warrior

by Zach Larson

Destiny Scrolls: Path of the Warrior is the first book in a series of five fantasy adventure novels. Magic permeates the realm of the novel, but the actual magic system is based on real world science. This fantasy fiction series unfolds for the reader at almost the same rate as the mysteries in the story unfold for the main character. The reader learns as the character does. If you are a fan of young adult fantasy, such as Eragon, then this book deserves a look.

Although some mild violence is contained in Destiny Scrolls: Path of the Warrior, the intensity is dialed back and tries to follow a more religious tone that will become more apparent with future installments of the series. It could indeed be classified as a religious fantasy because of the symbolism and metaphorical undertones that hint at Christian scripture. However, the series is still meant to appeal to a broad range of fantasy fiction readers and fit in with most other modern fantasy books. Any fan of fantasy adventure novels will find something to like about Destiny Scrolls.

Synopsis:

Thirty-three years ago, Murdock usurped the judges and took over as king of Arkeadion. Since then, anyone born with magical abilities has been in danger. The law requires all magic bearers to join the Arkeadion military or surrender their lives. The Teradon, a rebel faction, has been working against the king; they are losing. The only hope for a brighter future lies in a thousand year old prophecy and the Destiny Scrolls, mystical writings rumored to grant untold power.
Dregan doesn’t know about the prophecy or the scrolls. All this changes when he finds the dagger. Suddenly, he is an outlaw on the run, his home is burned down, and his parents are in prison. So what does he do when a stranger appears offering to help him break his parents out of prison? Accepts his help of course.
To find his destiny, Dregan must discover the truth about his birth, make sense of the Prophecy, and figure out his own, newly manifested, powers on the fly.
Things are changing quickly in Arkeadion; some changes are bigger than anyone realizes.

Radio Dance: 3 Novellas

by Kyler Doss

Frenzied love takes you through October and November - but you have to dance for it. None of the boys much care for the dance - it's the cowboy boots and powder blue coats they make you wear. The boys do care a lot for each other, though, and next thing you know you step off the high-octane slow dance in 3 different novellas: A Shortstop's Play, Jacking Dean's Ride, Hard Footwork.

A Shortstop's Play

Uptight high school boy faces two problems: 1) find a boyfriend; 2) keep it secret if you actually do. The coming dance in this overseas American school, a place stuck in the Arabian desert, will spin everything toward the real and the possible. But people love to gossip and Tim can't stand it when they do - he is going to have to get used to it or else forget about the whole thing.

Jacking Dean's Ride

When two happy boys push one another toward a crime, one of them speed-shifts up a gear too far. The fast cash and stupid love that Karl takes for real - all that breaks up under the hunter's moon. So he reaches for another gear in a new-look October, like how you can make your way through high school and still go out with who you actually want to.

Hard Footwork

A boy that never learned the rules of dating in high school still doesn't know what to do in college, especially when he meets a guy from the Air Force. Max steps outside with the Airman, away from the play-it-safe group dating that's going on at the pleasant honky-tonk. Now Max is holding on for all he's worth in a desert land where the rules never come into focus.
