by Mike Hatfield

The responsibilities of being a U.S. Deputy Marshal occasionally interrupts John Holden's simple life on his ranch in Bijou Basin, Colorado. Those interruptions had caused him to procrastinate, postpone his marriage to a woman he deeply loved until it was too late, and she had died. Blaming himself and his dedication to duty he carries his guilt abandoning his ranch for years until, while returning to Denver with a prisoner, he encounters an old and a new friend. Together they will ride a dangerous and fateful trail crossing a wagon train meandering west. Among those pioneers, he will rescue the beautiful gambler, Wanda Bouchard, from a brutal punishment not aware that she will become part of his destiny. It will be the beginning of a perilous and trying future facing stagecoach bandits, torrential storms, hideous accidents, rebellions and a final showdown with a gang of outlaws in a little town on the edge of nowhere called River Bend.

Nine Years Among the Indians, 1870-1879: The Story of the Captivity and Life of a Texan Among the Indians

by Herman Lehmann

Here is a genuine Little Big Man story, with all the color, sweep, and tragedy of a classic American western. It is the tale of Herman Lehmann, a captive of the Apaches on the Southern Plains of Texas and New Mexico during the 1870s. Adopted by a war chief, he was trained to be a warrior and waged merciless war on Apache enemies, both Indian and Euro-American. After killing an Apache medicine man in self-defense, he fled to a lonely hermitage on the Southern Plains until he joined the Comanches. Against his will, Lehmann was returned to his family in 1879. The final chapters relate his difficult readjustment to Anglo life.Lehmann's unapologetic narrative is extraordinary for its warm embrace of Native Americans and stinging appraisal of Anglo society. Once started, the story of this remarkable man cannot be put down. Dale Giese's introduction provides a framework for interpreting the Lehmann narrative.

A Voice from the Main Deck: Being a Record of the Thirty Years' Adventures of Samuel Leech

by Samuel Leech

Samuel Leech (1798–1848) was a young sailor in the Royal Navy and the United States Navy during the War of 1812. He became notable as one of very few who wrote an account of his experiences, titled, in the manner of the time, "A Voice from the Main Deck".Leech's nautical career began in 1810, at the age of thirteen, when Lord William FitzRoy agreed to take Samuel into his frigate HMS Macedonian. He was a powder monkey during Macedonian's duel with the United States in 1812, and would later vividly describe the carnage on board the British ship before she struck her colors.  He was a prisoner of war but his imprisonment seems not to have been too uncomfortable, and did not last long in any case, since the war ended the following year. Many years later he revisited Macedonian, now a US ship, when it was in port in New York (probably 1840), and perhaps this encounter inspired his book, which was published by Tappen & Dennet in 1843.

AMERICAN CIVIL WAR: The War Between the States (Outstanding people and events)

by Almanac History

AMERICAN CIVIL WAR Free BONUS Inside! The Civil War in the United States was a brutal one. It was a serious threat to the young nation of America, because it was a separation of the Northern states from the Southern ones. Although many attribute the causes of the Civil War to the issue of slavery, the actual motives were broader than that. They were political and related to Federal rights vs. States’ rights. Slavery was an outgrowth of that, as it had to do with the rights of states to declare themselves “slave states.”Here Is A Preview Of What You'll Learn...-A BARBEQUE LAST NIGHT-THEY SECEDED FROM UNION-MAJOR BATTLES I-EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION & THE VICKSBURG CAMPAIGN-MAJOR BATTLES II-THE SCORCHED EARTHScroll up and click “Buy now with 1-Click” to download your copy now!© 2019 All Rights Reserved !

Ryker (Kings of Korruption MC Book 1)

by Geri Glenn

Charlotte

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve taken care of everyone around me, including my self-centered older sister, Anna. When her poor choices make us targets of the Devil’s Rejects Motorcycle Club, I grab her and we run like hell. A new city, a new job, a new life. It’s almost perfect – and then I meet Ryker.

He’s gorgeous, rugged and too cocky for his own damned good. But he’s a biker – exactly the type of man I’ve been running from. I have no business getting involved with a man like him. Too bad I can’t get him out of my head.

Ryker

As V.P. of the Kings of Korruption MC, I know all about violence and loss. In my world, getting involved with a woman never turns out well. Avoiding commitment isn’t something I have to work at – it’s just a way of life. Then I meet Charlotte. Drawn to her kindness and beauty, I know there’s no place for her in my world. I have to let her go.

Finding Charlotte battered and bloody late one night, I go against my own beliefs, making it my mission to protect her. The Devils are out for blood and it’s Charlotte’s they want. Maybe I can’t keep her but I will put my life on the line to keep her safe. If not, I face losing the only woman that’s ever made me feel alive.

by Hourly History

James Monroe* * *Download for FREE on Kindle Unlimited + Free BONUS Inside!* * *Read On Your Computer, MAC, Smartphone, Kindle Reader, iPad, or Tablet. What American president would not relish the thought of his time in office bearing the description “Era of Good Feeling”? That was the title given to the time when President James Monroe occupied the White House. Monroe was a Virginian, like better-known Founding Father Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison. But his destiny was not defined solely by his loyalty to his state. He was an American, assured of a future destined to be grand because he lived in a nation where possibilities were probable. Inside you will read about...✓ A Virginia Gentleman ✓ An American Soldier ✓ Monroe at Home and Abroad ✓ A Virginia President ✓ The Second Term And much more!Monroe grew up in the colony of Virginia as the son of a moderately prosperous plantation owner, but his career in service to his nation took him to the battlefields of the Revolutionary War, diplomacy in Europe, the governorship of Virginia, Cabinet posts in Washington D.C., and through it all, America’s future. By establishing the Monroe Doctrine, he warned other nations that trespassing in the Western Hemisphere would be taken as an attack upon the United States. That he made this proclamation at a time when the United States was a mere fledgling compared to the predators of Europe demonstrates his confident audacity in the country he governed. He was a nineteenth-century believer in the twenty-first American century.

"Guns Don't Kill People, People Kill People": And Other Myths About Guns and Gun Control

by Dennis A. Henigan

Debunking the lethal logic behind the pervasive myths that have framed the gun control debateThe gun lobby’s remarkable success in using engaging slogans to frame the gun control debate has allowed it to block lifesaving gun legislation for decades. But is there any truth to this bumper-sticker logic? Dennis Henigan exposes the mythology and misguided thinking at the core of these pro-gun catchphrases, which continue to have an outsized influence on public attitudes toward guns and gun control. He counters the gun lobby’s messages by weaving together the most compelling current research and insights drawn from the grim reality of deadly gunfire in our homes and communities. Henigan charts a new path toward ending the American nightmare of gun violence.Myths Include:“When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.”“An armed society is a polite society.”“The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”“Gun control doesn’t work because criminals don’t follow the law.”“Gun manufacturers shouldn’t be responsible for gun crime, any more than Budweiser is responsible for drunk driving.”“We don’t need new gun laws. We just need to enforce the ones we have.”“Gun control is a slippery slope to complete gun bans.”

Hacksaw Ridge : The True Story of Desmond Doss

by Ronald Kruk

According to Doss's account in a documentary film titled "The Contentious Objector", as he rescued soldiers one-by-one, he breathed into the air with each go-around, "Lord, please help me get one more."The modest man of faith claims to have saved 50 wounded soldiers from certain death. His comrades claim that he saved 100. President Harry S. Truman presented him with the Congressional Medal of Honor upon his return to the United States, for his heroics on Okinawa, and the citation credits him with saving 75 lives, splitting the difference."From a human standpoint, I shouldn't be here to tell the story," said Doss in an interview with the Richmond Times-Dispatch. "No telling how many times the Lord has spared my life." During World War II, 16,112,556 American soldiers served their country and the cause of the Allies, and only 43 received the Medal of Honor. Doss, who held a powerful allegiance to Christ, and was a devoted member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, became the first conscientious objector to receive the U.S. military's highest honor. Today, he is one of two conscientious objectors to have received it.

Brief Histories of U.S. Government Agencies

by Michael Erbschloe

This book provides a brief history of over 100 U.S. Government departments and agencies. Concern for the preservation of the records of the nation was expressed early. "Time and accident," Thomas Jefferson warned in 1791, "are committing daily havoc on the originals deposited in our public offices." But it was not until the early 1930s that historians and others concerned with the preservation of the nation’s records saw their hopes realized. The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is the nation's record keeper. Of all documents and materials created in the course of business conducted by the United States Federal government, only 1%-3% are so important for legal or historical reasons that they are kept by NARA forever. These brief histories will hopefully help to preserve information that may be lost or deleted by the White House and appointed officials.

The Salem Witch Hunt: A Captivating Guide to the Hunt and Trials of People Accused of Witchcraft in Colonial Massachusetts

by Captivating History

If you want to discover the captivating history of the Salem Witch Hunt, then keep reading...Free History BONUS Inside!Decades after witch-hunting had begun to die down in Europe, North America was about to witness its bloodiest witch hunt in history. The Massachusetts of 1692 was a very different one to the state we know today. Populated by colonists, many of them a generation or less from life in an England bathed in religious turmoil, Massachusetts was not the safe haven that the fleeing Puritans had hoped it would be. Persecuted for their faith in Europe, the Puritans had pictured a kind of utopia founded on biblical principles. They saw the New World as a new beginning, a kind of second chance for humanity. It would be only 72 years after the arrival of the Mayflower that the events in Salem would make it blatantly obvious that humanity had already blown it again. This is not the story of the trials. This is the story of its people. This is not an attempt to explain the events of 1692. It is an attempt to bring to life the victims who died so unjustly. In this book, we will walk side by side with the destitute Sarah Good as she realizes that after having lost all she owns, her reputation, her baby, and even her life will still be taken from her. We stand at the bar with Rebecca Nurse, a sweet little old lady who is sentenced to hang for what she must have perceived to be the most heinous of crimes. We witness George Burroughs at the gallows, a former minister now condemned to die for his supposed alliance with Satan, as he delivers a speech so stirring that it takes quick thinking from his enemies to prevent the crowd from rushing forth to cut him down. We feel our own breaths catching as we watch the cruel and greedy Sheriff George Corwin piling rocks onto the fragile eighty-year-old body of Giles Corey, who is determined to die without entering a plea so that his sons will still get the inheritance he promised them.We will walk through this history in the footprints of those who suffered the hardest in it. by R. Stephen Smith

The family information in this book comes from a genealogy magazine published during the 1990s, now out of print. Contents of this brief volume include all queries from the magazine mentioning individuals or families surnamed DORRIS (with 7 queries total), DOSS (4 queries), DOSTER (4 queries), DORITY (DORETY) (4 queries), DORSEY (3 queries), DOSHER (3 queries) or DOSSEY (3 queries), as well as DORTRIDGE, DORVAN, DOSSETT, DOSWELL, DOTERY, DOTSON, and DOTY (with 1 query apiece). The focus is on families in the southern United States.Genealogy queries such as these have long been a means for family researchers to share information. Although these queries were written by persons seeking information, the wealth of detail in them could prove valuable to you if you're working on the same names or lines.Typically, queries include information on births, deaths, marriages, children of a given couple, family migrations, etc. Some trace several generations of one family. Some even include colorful family stories passed down through the years!Note: If you aren't sure if the information in this book will be useful to your particular family research, why not borrow and read it for free with a Kindle Unlimited subscription?Other surnames occurring incidentally in the queries reproduced in this volume include AGEE, AGNEW, ALDIN, ALLEN, ANDRO, ARTHUR, AUSTIN, BAGGETT, BAILEY, BARTON, BEDIN, BERGE, BLACK, BOLES, BOWENS, BOWES, BOYD, BRAMBLE, BRITTON, BROADNAX, BROOM, BROWN, BRYAN, BRYANT, CARR, CHAMBERS, CHANEY, CHAPPELIER, CLARK, CLAY, COBB, COLLIINS, CONNER, CRAPON, CRISP, CUMMINGS, CURL, CURRY, CURTIS, DANCER, DAUGHERTY, DAUTRIDGE, DAVIS, DEROAN, DEROUAN, DICKENS, DOUGERTY, DOUGGERTY, DOUGHERTY, DOUGHTERY, DOUGHTY, DOUGLAS, DOWDY, DROIN, DRONIN, DROUAN, DROUIN, DROUYN, DURHAM, DeROUEN, EASLEY, EATON, EINSTEIN, ELDRIDGE, EMBRY, FERGUSON, FISHBACK, FOURQUREAN, FRANCIS, FREE, GABLE, GOAD, GOWER, GRANTHAM, GRAY, GRIGSBY, GUTHERIE, HALEY, HAM, HAMILTON, HARDIN, HARKINS, HARMON, HARRIS, HARRISON, HELLMAN, HENSON, HILLMAN, HODGE, HOLLEY, HOLLY, HOPEWOOD, HORNBECK, HOWARD, HUDSPETH, HUFF, HUMPHREY, HUNT, HUTCHINSON, HUTCHISON, JACKSON, JAMES, KARR, KEMP, KENNEDY, KING, KIRKLAND, LANDRY, LEE, LELEUX, LOIGNON, LYON, MALLORY, MARKS, MEECE, MERCK, MIGEZ, MIGUEZ, MOORE, MORSE, MOSELY, McCAIN, McCARVER, McCLUNG, McDONALD, McDOUGAL, McINTOSH, McPHERSON, McRAE, NALL, NALLE, NIGHT, NITE, NORMAN, OLIVER, OTT, OWEN, OWENS, PAINTER, PECK, PETRIE, PETTY, PINNER, POE, POOLE, POUNDS, POWELL, PULLIN, PULLIN-BAGGETT, KIRKLAND-TURKETT, NALLE-ELDRIDGE(?), NALLE-ALDIN, ALDIN-WILLIS-KEMP., RAY, RHODES, ROARK, ROBBINS, ROBINSON, RUARK, SANFORD, SARGENT, SCOTT, SCREWS, SCUDDER, SHARP, SHARPE, SHIVERS, SIMMONS, SKLAR, SMITH, SPURRIER, STEPP, STINCHCOMB, STONE, STRAIN, SUMMERS, THERIOT, THOMAS, THOMPSON, TIMMONS, TINNEY, TIPET, TOWNSEND, TURKETT, TURNER, VALENTINE, VANIER, VATOR, WAITS, WALKER, WALLS, WATERS, WATSON, WEATHERS, WEBB, WEINBERG, WELCH, WHEELER, WHITLEY, WHITTINTON, WILLIAMS, WILLIAMSON, WILLIS, WILSON, WYRICK and YODER.
