Song of Life: Poems of Cathleen M. Brophy

by Cathleen Brophy and Paul Brophy

Almost all of the poems in this small book were written in the years 1944 – 1952, when Cathleen was between the age of 16 and 23. Some of the poems are frivolous and others speak of a deep spirituality and love of Jesus. There is a wisdom to be found in these poems. A wisdom born of love of God family and country. Some of the poems are dedicated to three of her closest friends, Dorothy, Loretta and Margie, and her cousin Kathleen who all became nuns. Shortly afterwards her brother Jack entered the seminary and became a priest. In July of 1975 she wrote the last poem “Dearest Daddy”. This was written after she began her long battle with cancer. I hope that this poem will comfort those suffering with terminal illness and their loved ones. Cathleen died on July 9, 1977, surrounded by h...

Bouquet: of emotions, feelings and thoughts...

by Subhrajyoti Parida

'Bouquet' - of emotions, feelings and thoughts is the maiden endeavour of the poet to pour his heart through poems based on a plethora of subjects- from human nature, emotions and ambitions to environmental issues currently imperilling our very existence and social issues like female foeticide which needs immediate attention if our future needs to survive. The poet, post unfortunate demise of his mother due to cancer, embarked upon an unique journey of compiling his poems (which were more of his emotions, feelings and thoughts than mere play of words) with the sole objective of dedicating the 'Bouquet' of poems to his late Mother. The book is a collection of poems on an array of themes just like a 'bouquet' of flowers of vivid colours and fragrance. Hence, the title : 'Bouquet- of emotions,...

The Wild Youth

by Rex Emerson Jackson

What do you do when a life full of potential seems to fade to nothing in front of your eyes? The Wild Youth is a collection of poetry about a boy raised as a girl, and the journey he took to reclaim his identity, promise, and youth, before it was too late. This book is an anthem for any young person who has faced disability and chosen to keep shining, for anyone who has ever been told for an entire childhood that they were one thing, only to discover they were something completely different. This book is also for those who are facing the prospect of straddling the line between "young adult" and "adult", and those who never grew up....

Poems of Mugurdich Beshiktashlian

by Mugurdich Beshiktashlian

In addition to original works, MUGURDITCH BESHIKTASHLIAN translated into Armenian many poems from other languages. It is not certain whether “A Brave Son of Armenia” is an adaptation from one of Victor Hugo’s “Oriental Poems,” or whether Hugo, who was an admirer of Armenian poetry, adapted it from the Armenian. On his gravestone are carved the lines that form the refrain of one of his most popular songs:...

Pool Stage: A Small Book of Poetry

by Robert Scott

What gives poetry its effect? Perhaps it is its foreignness to day to day living --- something apart from the travail of reality. Perhaps it is that poetry springs as much from the heart as from the mind. Whatever the reason, in poetry certain aspects of life and living gain a clarity and meaning not found in prose writing. In his work the "Apology" Plato attributes to Socrates the statement that "...the unexamined life is not worth living..." This small book of poetry tries to examine some of those aspects of life that makes it worth living....

ONCE UPON A TIME: assorted poetry about: LIFE, LOVE, TRUTHS, DECEPTIONS

by FRANCES VICTORIA

When you need to analyze what is going on around you, sometimes, taking the thoughts out of your head, where they are all muddled, and scripting them onto a piece of good old fashioned paper, with a pen, can truly help you a) get those ideas visually in front of you b) clear your mind, because having it written down allows you the freedom to step away without worrying you are going to forget the most important elements necessary c) look at things objectively, once you have had some time and space away from the muddle d) keep of record of how you were feeling, what you were thinking, and how you chose to deal with it, at a certain point in time.
Like keeping a diary, but far more creative, the book is a collection of thoughts and ideas and analysis and recollections dealing with many...
