We all have good days and bad days and of course this book won’t prevent the bad days. I just hope, and am confident, that it brings your overall level of wellbeing up over the longer term (weeks and months), assuming you are willing to make some major changes. Try not to look for instant fixes to your problems. This book certainly can’t do that.Don’t think that this is intended just for depressed or anxious people, the techniques in here work equally well for people who are feeling just okay but still want a lift in their mood or their outlook. In fact it should work well for those who aren’t anxious or depressed because it provides you techniques that can make you less vulnerable should, most likely when, bad times come your way.Then the book goes broader. This is not intended to be just about my mind, or your mind, but society’s, and to explore in a bit more depth how society’s problems are becoming your problems and possibly the other way around too. One of my main concerns is that these societal problems or negative traps are getting easier to end up in, and more difficult to get out of. Just think about something like obesity, the rapid emergence of social media, how people simply don’t put enough value on their time, or how millions of kids are flooding into universities and are now drowning in debt because they've been misinformed. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like many of these issues are getting properly addressed and many of them are ignored by the people who they are most acutely impacting, perhaps in the hope that they’ll just go away. This is a recipe for disaster on a pretty epic scale. Have the awareness of where things may be going wrong in your life and start taking action to put things right.

It seems that aggressive and cruel crimes are committed more often by men. However, there have been mothers who have ‘snapped’ or experienced psychotic breaks while caring for children. The story seems even more ghastly because we hear about mothers killing much less often than we hear about men committing gruesome crimes and murder. Despite there being more male serial killers, it always seems to amaze us when a woman is found guilty of murder.

So one day, instead of trying to figure out what the correct premises were, I simply thought about what kinds of premises it is possible to believe in, and what premises we use in different kinds of activity, how it is possible for these kinds of premises to interact together, and the beginning of this search led me to produce the above Venn-diagram.

“I Will Only React to Constructive Suggestions": Targeted Individuals

It is most effective when repeated at bedtime, but can be used anytime an individual feels fear. Whenever you are feeling fear, is a good time to repeat the statement. Eventually, your subconscious will hold it as a permanent belief, giving you immunity. Another alternative is to modify the statement until it feels right for you, such as, “I will only react to constructive suggestions, for all eternity.” In some people, this can offer immediate long-term benefits.
