Getting Started With Computer Networking: Cisco Tips You Need To Know

by Peter Paskowsky

I began writing this book as an introduction to the world of networking for new Network Engineers. After a few years on the job, I wanted to compile all of my notes, thoughts, and knowledge in a form that could help out others just starting their careers.

I entered my first job with a certain degree of confidence in my knowledge from taking multiple Cisco exams and perhaps an even greater amount of humility about what I didn’t know. This work is dedicated to the new guy on the job.

It’s intended as a hand reference to double check what’s been done and to provide helpful hints and advice on how to solve typical problems. It’s aiming to cover the topics on the exams that I found critical in my career, and especially covering the things the exams never prepared me for. It assumes some knowledge of basic networking concepts such as IPv4 addressing, subnetting, and the OSI model.

The goal is to present this information in an accessible and easy to understand manner, in contrast with other sources such as exam study material or Cisco documentation. It can be used as a reference for code examples, or read cover to cover to familiarize yourself with many topics.

Included are many practical labs and configuration examples. I encourage you to build them out, test them, and expand upon them to increase your knowledge.

The book is loosely organised into sections covering basic configuration, managing routers and switches, advanced configurations, switching, routing, WAN technologies, and security concepts. Feel free to jump to those you are most interested in or find most useful.

Cognizanti: An annual journal produced by Cognizant | VOLUME 9 ISSUE 1 2016 ((Part III) Digital Business 2020: Getting there from here! Book 3)

by Alan Alper

Progress on the Path to Digital Authenticity This edition of Cognizanti explores the essence of what it means to be digital (think of a digital-to-the-core attitude and customer autonomy as critical operating constructs) and amplifies the role that the thoroughly modern CIO can play in helping organizations achieve progress, both from a leadership and “gig” economy point of view. From there, we examine the evolving world of intel-ligent automation (systems that do, think, learn and adapt), as well as the emerging landscape of business platforms, where companies of all sizes and shapes can plug and play in ecosystems that they either own, manage or merely participate in. This new approach introduces an interesting variation on the “co-opetition” theme that has pervaded business for the past few decades.

The Third Internet: Reinventing Computer Networking with IPv6

by Lawrence Hughes

This book contains Information on the Third Generation of the Global Internet. The First Internet was ARPANet, which was based on NCP, which had an 8-bit address for a maximum of 256 addresses. This ran from 1969 until 1982. Few people ever got to use or even hear about this Internet. The Second internet, was based on IPv4, and began operation in 1983. It is still widely used today. IPv4 has 32-bit addresses, for a maximum of 4.3 billion addresses. It has been badly broken with Network Address Translation and Private Addresses, which has splintered the original monolithic Internet into millions of private internets, each hiding behind one public IPv4 address. This has had major impacts on the operation of the Internet and design of network software. Most people today have only private IPv4 addresses which severely limits what they can do (e.g. you must have a public address to run a server). Many countries did not get a "fair share" of IPv4 public addresses. The U.S. got some 40% of them, for 5% of the world's population. Other countries have not been able to fully participate in the benefits of the Internet because of this. The Third Internet is based on IPv6, which as 128-bit addresses, for a maximum of 340 Trillion, Trillion, Trillion public addresses. It began serious deployment around 2014 and is now in rapid adoption globally. IPv6 restores the flat address space which eliminates the need for NAT. This means anyone can run servers, even on phones. Any node with IPv6 can connect directly to any other node, without the need for an intermediary server. This completely changes the way we can communicate. This is the biggest revolution to ever hit IT or Computing. Trillions of dollars will be spent and made in the process of deploying the successor to the current Internet. If you are in computing, and are not aware of this, you are probably already obsolete and don't even know it.There is a linked website at https://thirdinternet.com with additional information, labs, etc.

AWS Solution Architect Associate & AWS Cloud Practitioner Certifications 2019: The Next Level Guide (AWS Certifications Book 1)

by Charles Clifford

The ‘AWS Solution Architect Associate & AWS Cloud Practitioner Certifications 2019 - The Next Level Guide’ is the only complete and up-to-date training resources for both the AWS Cloud Practitioner and the AWS Solution Architect Associate 2019 certifications. Unlike all other substitutes, this manuscript covers all content addressed by Cloud Practitioner as well as the Solution Architect Associate certifications currently offered by the AWS Academy. Moreover, the author of this manuscript is accredited by the AWS Academy to teach both the certification curriculum (the Cloud Foundation (CF) and the Cloud Architecture (CA)). The materials contained in this manuscript begin with a deep dive into the CF content required for Cloud Practitioner certification: AWS Networking, Identity, Compute, Storage, and Database Services. With these covered, we go into the CA content required for Solution Architect Associate certification: AWS application integration, high-availability, serverless applications, followed by the five (5) pillars of AWS cloud architecture: operational excellence, security, cost optimization, reliability, and performance efficiency. Written in a clear and concise style, the manuscript lays out and dives deeply on the foundation of AWS cloud resources and services, taking the reader step by step into the complexity of AWS cloud architectures (both distributed multi-tiered as well as stateless serverless applications).
