A Horological and Mathematical Defense of Philosophical Pitch

by Brendan Bombaci

This is a short article written to copyright a pioneering idea in the realm of music theory. The problem with the concert pitch debate is that most every proposition has been subjectively reasoned, with no logical justification as to why any pitch makes more sense than any other. I note the origins of the second-hand in timekeeping and how they most sensibly relate to pitch frequencies in music based on the sexagesimal system to give us a further breakdown of time and measurement in tonality, which music is intended to do at its most fundamental. In this argument is a bit about why Five Limit Tuning is better than Equal Temperament, when it used with the Philosophical Pitch standard of C256 to make a new set of stacking thirds pitches in the chromatic scale so as to make their lowest oc...

Gabriel Orozco: Impossible Utopias

by Lily Luahana Cole

“Impossible Utopias is an original and elegantly-written meditation on the political potential of Gabriel Orozco’s subtle body of work. Starting out from a close reading of Observatory House, a lesser-known work by the artist that also doubles as his holiday home, Lily Cole develops a persuasive account of the momentary utopias that are opened up by Orozco’s playful experiments with everyday reality. In so doing, Cole also contributes to an urgent project to reassert the impossible possibility of utopian thought in and for the twenty-first century.” —Luke Skrebowski, University Lecturer in the History of Art, University of Cambridge...

The Image Magician (The Culture of Vision Series Book 2)

by Cerkes Karadag and Eser Komurcu

Every century, hundreds of millions of people travel around the world in the direction of their special purpose or for their holidays. Whether it is the excitement of encounter or the end of a need, this mass of people is seriously interested in photography. The fact that some amateur photographers also reach the artistic results achieved by successful artists should not be seen as something unusual in a part of the photographs that we consider to be insignificant. Because in the photograph it is probable that accidentalness can always exist. The fact that coincidental winds have a chance to blow a curious person and they have the chance to take some unusual photographs should not mean that this luck will last....

Photography and Zen:: Discovering your true nature through photography. (Photography and Consciousness Book 2)

by Stephen Bray and Michael Eldridge

This may be one of the most disturbing photography books you will ever read. It will challenge your notions about photography as it artfully points to a unity between subject, photographer, equipment and technique.
Professor Michael Eldridge, former Head of Post Graduate Studies in Photography at 'The Arts University' states in the Foreword:
"Stephen Bray writes here a travelogue about his voyage and search for meaning and inspiration. He also explores the relationship between photography and awareness within the context for formal Buddhist philosophy, for the benefit of those wishing to understand how these may be linked. Then, in Part Two, he shares his own experience and sets out some exercises for you to explore."
"He gets lost, gets confounded in dead ends, is led a...

Four Amazing Short Stories

It occurs to me that the title of my book of short stories must leave you wondering about what lies within. Garage Band Theory – GBTool 09 Melody Harmony Scales & Chords: Music theory for non music majors, livingroom pickers & working musicians who want to think ... Tools the Pro's Use to Play

by Duke Sharp

Everything in this book came from Garage Band Theory and there's loads more useful stuff there.

Here we'll take a look at how all these items and ideas fit together and how you can use them to play songs by ear.

It's gonna require a decent working knowledge of most of the vocabulary that's found in the previous chapters, but if you're already speaking music, you won't have any trouble here.

I think that people who play exclusively by ear understand this stuff intuitively and it certainly looks and sounds like pure magic when they're doing it.

But for the rest of us, it's really helpful to go through it slowly, look at the illustrations and examples and you'll start seeing the relationships right away.

This is non Academi...
